Walks, cycling, bus and drives

Walks

There is direct access to an abundance of public footpaths just outside the main gate (an OS map is very useful), one of which leads to the village green and church. Plus several others of varying length and directions including a 5 mile round trip through neighbouring village Cublington and the excellent Unicorn pub. We have installed a style to give you private direct access to the cublington footpath significantly reducing the walk to the pub which is just 1 mile. Ask me for a copy of a local map with several walks marked on it (with pubs midway of course) or you can download it here. walking map.png

Several woodland walks are a few minutes cycle or drive including
Stockgrove Park
Rushmere Where you can watch the herons in their nests from the roof top cafe.
The Ashridge Estate one of our faourite spots. National Trust with a good cafe and tall monument that you can climb.
and Wendover Woods.
All have cafes and facilities. Wendover Woods hosts a Go Ape high ropes course.

Dunstable Downs is visible from the site and is a 25 min drive. There is a National Trust cafe and car park.

Coombe Hill (near Aylesbury) has stunning views over the vale. No facilities on the hill.

Or you could even book an Alpaca Walk at Abbotts View Alpacas but bear in mind we are usually fully booked 6-8 weeks in advance

There are some excellent walking routes available here: https://www.chilternsaonb.org/explore-enjoy/walks-rides/ridgeway/ridgeway-day-walks.html

Cycling
There is excellent access to some gorgeous cycle routes with more pubs and cafes en route than you could wish for. Routes include visiting stately homes, forests and woodland, National Trust sites, A windmill, canal side tow paths and even off road mountain biking through woodland. There's one community owned pub (the Stag in Mentmore) which is on our favourite route (towards Ashridge estate with its woods, monument and cafe) that actually has a cycle park and repair point with free access to tools and pumps.
Oving (with it's excellent pub, The Black Boy) and Quainton (with its Windmill and steam train railway station) are beautiful and well worth cycling too (and through).
We have edited a handy map of the nearest routes which can be found here Cycling map.pdf

Also if you cycle into aylesbury follow signs for the Jubilee Way and it's a really nice no traffic route.

Drives

You could also drive the route of the Great Train Robbery stopping off at the various points of interest:

We are surrounded by many pretty villages. You could easily spend several days driving around them all. And most have a nice restaurant or pub.

Bus services
There are buses into Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes.

The number 165 runs through Aston Abbotts. Its about every 2 hours and runs between Aylesbury and Leighton buzzard via the village green. It will take you 10 minutes to walk to the bus stop in the village.
You can see the 165 bus times here https://bustimes.org/services/165-aylesbury-leighton-buzzard

Alternatively, a 20 minute walk from our site to the "Wingrave cross roads" on the A418 and there is a more regular (and faster) bus service (number 150 and 100). They run from Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard, Wingrave cross roads to Aylesbury and run about every 20 to 30 minutes.
